Jim Webb refuses to bullshit with Bush
Yes it was worth it to spend 45 minutes getting my net connection up this morning.
I remember hearing a story about some beautiful rocking chairs in a local antique store. The story was that there were a bunch of brothers (could have been 7, could have been more or fewer, I can’t remember, but it was a bunch) who lived together and each had a rocking chair on the porch. Each chair was custom-made, a variation on a theme, fitted to an individual brother. Each year they added a coat of whitewash to their chairs. After the brothers died off the antique dealer acquired the chairs, stripped off the whitewash and added a finish that let the walnut shine through. Sort of sounds like a lake wobegone norwegian bachelor farmer story.

Good to see you back here. Life is as crazy as ever at this place.
Hey Jim,
Crazy can keep things interesting. But…
Once Jan got Ellen Gilchrist to sign a novel for me (I was a big fan of her radio commentaries). Ellen asked Jan what I did for a living and then included this in the inscription: …and don’t take the machines too seriously - they don’t give oxygen
So whatever that means, I pass the advice along to you.
And Robert Wright said “we are all machines”.
oohhhhhmmmmmmm
